& Community
The Ridge Preschool acknowledges the Dharawal speaking people who are the Traditional Custodians of the land of Sutherland Shire.
The Ridge pays respect to the Elder's past and present of the Dharawal nation and extends that respect to other Aboriginal people visiting this site.
The Ridge Preschool & Childcare Centre is located on a beautiful bush ridge in Barden Ridge in the western portion of the Sutherland Shire. We are blessed to be in such a wonderful natural surrounding where the birds come and visit every day..!!
We at The Ridge teach the children respect for the land, and respect of nature. Only by teaching them the value of our environment can we expect them to help save it.
Working with, and contributing to, community is also very important at The Ridge.
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Wellness Program
Mind, Body and Spirit
As part of our holistic approach to care we focus on the total wellbeing of each child. Mindfulness and meditation provides your child with the skills to relax the mind. Likewise, participating in yoga provides lifelong skills in promoting a healthy body.
At The Ridge we are "Giving Kids the Gift of Yoga" by utilising the Little Yogi program.
Little Yogi has been bringing Yoga and Mindfulness to kids since 2014 in Sutherland Shire.
Yoga for kids is a perfect method for developing physical, social and mental wellbeing. Our Kids Yoga program is designed based on the Early Years Learning Framework.
Kids will learn basic Yoga inspired movement to help create good healthy habits. They will learn breathing exercise to help them calm their body and mind in this busy world. They will also learn mindfulness practice to help them focus which can be very useful for those who are transitioning to Big school.
SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM
Transitioning to Big School is one of the most important milestones of children’s life.
At the Ridge, we are here to guide your children to a smooth transition to Big School. With our “School Readiness Program” supported by Experienced Early Childhood Teachers.
Your children are ensured to be ready for this exciting stage of their life. With our holistic approach, school readiness is way beyond learning to read and write. We look at all aspects of physical and mental developments. We will work closely with you to bring out the best in your child... It’s time for them to SHINE!
Learning, Development
& School Readiness
The Ridge Preschool early learning program has been developed by our qualified Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs).
We believe in Play based learning as your child is naturally curious.
Kids want to know about the world around them.
Right from birth, kids are learning.
They do this by watching and listening, moving, talking, feeling, exploring and questioning; by interacting with people, other children, animals, objects and spaces indoors and outdoors, around the home, and when you are out and about.
Creative Arts and Music Therapy
Creative arts are activities that engage a child’s imagination and can include activities such as art, dance, drama, puppetry, and music. They stimulate and help children cultivate their abilities across virtually every domain, and they are open-ended activities, fostering flexibility of the mind.
The Ridge Preschool has partnered with registered music therapists to facilitate music therapy programs for our children, as part of our child development program.
There is a body of scientific and academic research that states music therapy programs can help to enhance a child’s developmental functions. We want our children to reap the many benefits that music therapy for children provides.
Benefits
-
Improving the health and wellbeing of our children;
-
Increasing their social skills;
-
Developing their cognitive awareness;
-
Improving their language skills; and
-
Providing our children with opportunities for self-expression.
Music uses the whole brain as music is processed on both sides of the brain. When a person is engaged in musical activities, the brain is actively firing more neurons and increasing the opportunity for development and learning.
